EDAS – The Parliamentary Enquiry into Scotland’s Learning Network
Hall Aitken attended a consultation event organized by EDAS (Economic Development Association Scotland) on 1 September 2010 in Edinburgh. The event was chaired by Iain Smith, MSP.
In principle there appeared to be agreement that public support to stimulate enterprise was necessary however the administrative cost of delivering this support in a strategic way was at issue.

Government Buyers Want More of Hall Aitken
Hall Aitken working alongside Quadrant has been awarded a place on the Buying Solutions framework agreement to provide consultancy services to the UK public sector.
Public sector clients can benefit from using the Buying Solutions framework. They can avoid the cost and time that is inherent in an open tender. Buying solutions have estimated that users can save 77 days on average by by-passing pre-purchase stages.
The Key to Success is Planning!
Business Planning is something that all organisations should do. Not only should you have a plan but you should review this regularly with your steering group or board. Stakeholders and partners must be consulted and involved in the development. And everyone with a role to play must be clear what that role is and what their responsibilities are. We have made a template freely available on our website.

Denbigh has the F-Factor
Families turned out to a wet and windy Denbigh to take part in a healthy living event designed to get children eating more fruit and veg and getting more exercise. The F-Factor project, part of the Hall Aitken supported Way of Life Programme, has already run a series of successful festivals throughout round one in Rhyl, St. Asaph, Corwen and Ruthin.
The activities were run by the local Council as well as people from nearby sports clubs.

Recognising Good Practice Within the Civil Society
WCVA is producing a web-based portfolio of Civil Society sector good practice within Health, Social Care and Wellbeing. Through this portfolio they aim to strengthen knowledge and understanding of third sector service provision among policy makers, service planners and providers and celebrate the ability of the third sector to provide effective citizen-centred services.
They are now requesting examples of good practice within the Civil Society sector and hope that you might be able to participate. If your organisation or an organisation within your area has been particularly successful at delivering a service, collaborating with other organisations to produce a 'linked up' service, or provided added value they would like to hear from you.

SROI – Demonstrating Real Value
We need your views on Social Return on Investment (SROI) through a short questionnaire. With your response you can influence future support for demonstrating social value - which may result in more contracts for the third sector and better service delivery. Your views are important for this evaluation – even if you’ve never heard of SROI before.

Sustaining Services, Finding Funds
“Real cut backs are an opportunity to see what really matters, stop doing things that don’t, and get creative about things that do. You have to start with three commitments: be honest, be smart, and be compelling”
An interesting and relevant piece written by Hall Aitken Managing Director Jeremy Wyatt, for New Start Magazine, looking at current funding issues for organisations.
